Here are the 3 remaining dogs in need....

Rose wants to keep 2 of the dogs and will not release them. There are 3 more in need. Of the 3, I feel Kayla is the least adoptable. She is fear aggressive/guarded on the end of her chain. She will warm up once she gets used to you but will take an experienced rescuer. Princess is shy, but not at all aggressive with people. She just needs someone to give her time to trust. Streak is a little shy but very loving and playful. She's a sweet, happy girl who deserves a better life. Here are their pictures and videos of Streak and Princess. We are accepting donations of "sponsorship" to offer to any reputable rescue who can take these dogs in.

Princess

Princess, medium-large whitish dog, female, not spayed
Princess is probably the most shy dog there, but is getting more and more eager to approach us. She is SOOOO happy to see anyone she knows, but still isn't sure about strangers. Not at all aggressive, she'll pee submissively if she thinks you're going to corner her. She wants to love so badly and gets very attached.

Streak

Streak, small-medium tan dog, female, not spayed
Streak is a sweetie. A little nervous about new people and definitely not a fan of the camera... but very approachable when the camera is safely tucked away

Kayla

Kayla is very guarded but will warm up once she gets to know you. She has the typical chained dog behavior (aggressive on the chain, weary of new people) but with some work and a new environment definitely has potential to be a great pet. She just needs someone with experience and patience to give her that chance.

The rescued cats need your help!!

The cats in Rose's house were living in horrible conditions before the cat rescue helped with so many. Last year countless were saved from small, horrible enclosures. Many were also spayed and neutered. There were 14 more they recently saved, PLEASE help them if you can.

Here are pics of some previous cats helped and the enclosures they used to live in and were saved from:

That small piece of mesh/fencing is all they had to see to the outside world and all they had for ventilation.
I circled their cage so you can see just how small it was (maybe 3 ft tall):
Rescue needed for these cats as well as help with their medical bills:

All of the cats taken from her home are sick (URI, etc)...some worse than others. I hope to s/n and finish vetting the healthier ones this month. They were already treated for fleas and ear mites (will need continued treatment.

Black female with very bright eyes. Beautiful.

Calico (mom to the gray kitten and buff kitten)

Very sweet girl...loves attention...would let my dog pet her if he could. lol

Her brother (his eye was closed because Brady (dog) was breathing on him):

The cats posted above are the healthier ones who should be available for rescue/adoption first. There are a few other cats not posted.
Also, she gave me several kittens who sadly did not make it
I took them to my vet and they were just too sick.

I'm not sure where she got them from (they were not born at her house).

Keisha - the invisible dog

After going to Rose's house for a year and working on rescue for the dogs there, I thought I knew all of them. I had taken pictures of most and while I hadn't seen Casper in person until recently, I did have his picture from another rescuer. Then one of the cat rescuers was telling me about Keisha, the dog that Rose has but no one ever mentions. She called her the "invisible" dog there. Everyone thought she was aggressive because she was protective and growled in her crate.

Keisha apparently has lived in an airline crate for years. She only got out to go to the bathroom. When I saw her I knew I had to take her. She was just pathetic with ear infections in both ears, both eyes infected, and a horrible skin infection that smelled bad and caused her to itch constantly. Keisha is also missing some of her top teeth and has worn down her canines from chewing on the bars of the airline crate trying to get out. Despite Keisha's reputation of being "aggressive" she was a total love once she got out of the crate. She crawled in my lap and gently handed me her paw, grateful for any attention or love she received. This girl needed a second chance and we're so glad she has one.

This is why we keep going back....

Here are some pictures of the dogs that we have been able to save. They are happy and loved in their new homes. All of the dogs there deserve this chance. Please help us finish this project and get the remaining dogs off their chains and into loving homes. Thank you so much for your support so far and more pictures/updates are coming!

Cocoa is a part of everything we do. She is like our third child and we feel so blessed to have her. The boys start and end each day looking for her and even as I type this, she's sitting at my feet. She's pure love and we can only hope that the other dogs that lived along side her get a chance to bring as much love to a family as she has brought to ours. Thank you for all that your team does for these dogs and for bringing us our sweet baby!!

Help sponsor dogs and cats to get them out of this situation!!!

Often rescues are worried about the cost of animals who have been without any medical treatment and with vetting and boarding costs so high, sponsorship money helps find rescues to accept the animals into their program. I have created a "Chip in" widget to help raise funds for these animals. All donations are made through Animal Action Rescue, a 501(c)(3), so they will be tax deductible. AAR will distribute the funds to reputable rescues that take any of these animals in. In the special instructions or by e-mailing GTigger719@aol.com (please title PIKE COUNTY HOUSE) you can chose to sponsor a specific dog or cat, or just "dogs" or "cats", or contribute to the general fund to be used as rescues need assistance.

**** SPONSORSHIP money raised so far has saved Casper, Missy, Bear, and Pretty Lady. $250 needed for the same wonderful rescue to pull Xena. Blackie was rescued off her chain but needs help to pay her vet bills (and just in time too, she's in heat!). Butchie, Princess, and Streak still don't have rescue pending, but donations will probably help since it will cover vet bills/transport. Please click on the "Chip in" widget below to help out.

Latest update

Some of you have been very involved in helping Rose and Bob of Concord, GA (about an hour south of Griffin, 2 hours south of Atlanta) find homes for the dogs and cats they’ve cared for over the past year. They live in a rented trailer and most of the dogs and cats were stray or just dumped on the property. With VERY limited funds, they’ve done the best they can. Over 20 dogs have been re-homed or taken into rescue. Countless cats have gone to rescue.

There are nine or ten dogs left and quite a few cats. Rose’s health is failing and Bob works 7 days a week and there is no one else to care for these animals. Rose realizes that she needs to find someone to help, once again. She brings some of the dogs into the trailer at night and some of them stay in the trailer all the time (it’s very crowded). The remaining dogs are chained to dog houses to prevent them from mating, fighting or running into the road. We have built 2 fenced areas and some of the dogs use those every day. Most of these dogs are between 2 and 5 years old (except Casper).

To update the site, the following dogs are available:

***Xena has rescue if we can raise $250 to cover her transport and vet work, please help get Xena off her chain, see how sweet she is in her video***

Xena, blue bulldog mix, female, not spayed.
Xena is a SWEET blue Pit mix. She's a big baby and only wants to play and wrestle all day long. She says she'll play fetch with her sometimes. This girl is about as sweet and goofy as they come.

***Missy was rescued thanks to your donations and a wonderful rescue***

Missy, small black dog, female, not spayed
I LOVE this girl. Missy is a sweetheart who is always so happy to see you. She just wants to hug you and be close. She may never get off her chain though :(

***Pretty Lady was rescued thanks to your donations and a wonderful rescue***

Pretty Girl (or Trixie’s Girl or Pretty Lady), medium tan dog, female, spayed
This girl was very sweet and submissive, though the camera scared her. She seemed playful but reserved.

***Bear was rescued thanks to your donations and a wonderful rescue***

Bear, small Corgi/Chow mix, female, spayed
Bear is a loveable goofy girl. This is Kathryn's favorite. She's goofy and sweet. Her and Kayla's mom can reach eachother on their chains and I was inbetween them while both jumped all over me playing and begging for attention.

**Blackie has a foster - needs a HOME and donations to help w/ her vet bills**

Blackie, small black dog, female, not spayed This girl is also a sweetheart who is always happy to see us. She LOVES her treats She looks to be an older gal, but she isn't, it's just her coloring. She deserves a good chain free home for the rest of her life. She still is pretty spunky and probably around 2-3 yrs old.

***Butchie NEEDS RESCUE!!***

Butchie, Jack Russell Terrier, male, not neutered
Broken-coated Jack Russel Terrier, male, about 2 years old. He is friendly with people, but reportedly chases cats with gusto and tries to pick fights with other dogs (even the big ones)..typical terrier, right?

**Casper was rescued thanks to your donations and a wonderful rescue*** Casper, senior Spaniel mix, male, not neutered
This boy is the only senior there and deserves a better place to live out his golden years.

Kayla still needs rescue

Kayla, medium brown dog, female, not spayed
This girl looks like a shepherd mix. She was very growly and standoffish.

Princess NEEDS RESCUE!!

Streak NEEDS RESCUE!!!!

Streak, small-medium tan dog, female, not spayed
Streak is a sweetie. A little nervous about new people and definitely not a fan of the camera... but very approachable when the camera is safely tucked away

These dogs are Rose’s and she would like to keep them if possible:

Dallas, medium brown dog, male, neutered
Dallas is has a questionable personality. I think he's just very skiddish and hasn't shown any signs of aggression, but definitely not as comfortable with people as the other dogs are. He is one that Rose wants to keep.

Trixie, medium-large whitish dog, female, not spayed
TRIXIE-White Husky mix female. She is the ownner's personal dog (she states) and has the honored position of living inside the trailer. She is a mom to some of the others. She is reserved, but not aggressive. Owner does NOT want to give up this dog.

Last summer/fall, I started to take her dogs, one at a time, to get them neutered and vetted and return them. Each dog took over a week because of travel time and boarding time and my work schedule. I ran out of money, so only 3 dogs were done. I have tried to keep Rose in Frontline and Heartguard but I’m sure that’s gone, too.

Five of Rose’s dogs who found homes in the Northeast through Dogs Deserve Better are featured in the 2008 DDB calendar – before and after pictures.
